Shawn Simonson, Ed.D., C.S.C.S., ACSM H/FI
Associate Professor
Dr. Shawn Simonson earned his doctorate in Kinesiology at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado. He also holds a master’s degree in Coaching and a bachelor’s degree in Biology. His current certifications are the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and American College of Sports Medicine’s Health and Fitness Instructor.
After completion of his graduate studies, Dr. Simonson held a two-year post-doctoral research position in Dr. John Greenleaf’s Human Environmental Physiology Laboratory at NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, California. He has since taught movement science at Western New Mexico University, owned a gym, and worked in private industry at LifeMasters Supported SelfCare, Inc. He has also worked as a personal trainer, coach, police fitness instructor, fitness director, wellness coordinator, clinical exercise physiologist, researcher, ergonomics evaluator, teacher, health educator, and as a disease management and prevention counselor.
Dr. Simonson has published and presented in the areas of environmental physiology, exercise physiology, biomechanics, pathophysiology, disease management, and exercise leadership. His current research interests include arthritis, bodybuilding, conditioning, youth fitness,
elder fitness, and disease management.
