Lynda Ransdell, Ph.D., FACSM

Professor and Chair

Dr. Lynda Ransdell joined the BSU faculty as Chair of Kinesiology in July of 2004. She has previously served on faculties at the University of Utah, University of Kentucky, and Colorado State University. She received her doctoral degree in “Exercise and Wellness” from Arizona State University and she continues to study women’s health as it relates to physical activity and physical activity interventions with underserved populations. In 2005, she published a book with Dr. Petlichkoff titled: Ensuring the health of active and athletic girls and women.  She is working on another book titled “Physical Activity Interventions,” to be published by Human Kinetics.

Additionally, she has published over 60 peer reviewed articles and 8 book chapters related to health and physical activity. She has funded her research with over $200,000 in grant monies from a variety of government and private sources, and she is a “Fellow” in the American College of Sports Medicine and the Research Consortium of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Sport.

In the service arena, Dr. Ransdell has served as President of the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport. She has also served as the editor for the “Women in Sport and Physical Activity Journal,” and she has reviewed papers for Annals of Behavioral Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Women’s Association, American Journal of Health Behavior, Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, American Journal of Health Education, Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology, QUEST, and the Journal of Physical Activity and Health.
