Werner Hoeger, Ed.D., FACSM

Werner Hoeger

Dr. Werner Hoeger earned his Doctoral degree in exercise physiology at Brigham Young University in 1978. He has taught at the University of the Andes in Venezuela, The University of Texas of the Permian Basin, and served as Technical Director of Fitness Monitoring (a preventive medicine clinic in Rolling Meadows, IL). Dr. Hoeger has been at BSU since 1986 and he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in exercise physiology, athletic conditioning procedures, exercise testing and prescription, and fitness-related courses.

Dr. Hoeger is the most widely read fitness and wellness college author in the United States. He has written ten textbooks (three in Spanish) and a total of 42 editions of these books. Additionally, he has received several grants to conduct research in the areas of body composition changes through diet, exercise, and nutrient supplements. He has also conducted research in the areas of water aerobics, strength training, muscular flexibility, and the assessment of physical fitness.
